HC Oguzkhan and HC Galkan qualify for the semi-final

HC Oguzkhan of the Turkmengaz State Concern and HC Galkan of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan qualified for the semi-final having defeated their rivals in the first junior (U17) ice hockey tournament for the Turkmenistan President’s Cup taken place at the Winter Sports Centre in Ashgabat. In the match versus the team from the United Arab Emirates our hockey players shot more than pucks. The match ended with the score 31-4.

The game between another Turkmen team - HC Galkan and HC Khimik from Moscow Oblast ended in a draw 4-4.

According to the rules of the international tournament in case of a drawn game, the teams should shoot bullets. Turkmen sportsmen achieved the best results in ‘the duel’ between goalkeeper and the team of rivals and qualified for the semi-final.

In the other two matches HC Raubichi-96 from Belarus played versus HC Silver Lions from St. Petersburg and the junior team from Turkey versus HC Neftyanik from Almetyevsk, the Russian Federation.

In the first match Russian hockey players demonstrated the best results having scored 32 goals without reply. Young sportsmen from St. Petersburg defeated their rivals from Belarus 3-2.

Summing up the results of the two rounds, HC Oguzkhan leads in Group A with six points, HC Raubichi-96 and HC Silver Lions occupy the second place in the group with three points each and the team from the United Arab Emirates occupied the third place with no points.

In Group B, HC Galkan gained six points and took the first place, HC Khimik and HC Neftyanik with three points each took the second place in the group and the junior team from Turkey gained no points.

February 13 is a day off according to the regulations of the junior ice hockey tournament for the Turkmenistan President’s Cup. Nevertheless, the team from the United Arab Emirates and the junior team from Turkey continue the competition. Today the junior teams of the two fraternal countries have played friendly matches with hockey players of the Olympic School of the State Committee for Sport.

Thus, the tournament is of particular significance for increasing the sports mastership among the participants of the junior ice hockey tournament for the Turkmenistan President’s Cup as well as young Turkmen hockey players who have made their first steps in mastering this spectacular sport.
