President of Turkmenistan visits the construction site of Bereket-Etrek section of the North-South railway
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working visit to Balkan Velayat to see the progress in construction of Bereket-Etrek section of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational railway.
It should be noted that Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan section of the transnational railway was put into operation on 11 May this year. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev attended the ceremony. The project of the transport corridor, which is to ensure convenient and cost-effective delivery of goods from Europe to Central and South Asia and the Middle East, embodies the idea of reviving the Great Silk Road that has been linking the nations of Eurasia over many centuries. Turkmenistan is an initiator of reconstruction of the ancient route.
In the morning the President’s helicopter landed on a special area near Dyaneata station on Bereket-Etrek section of the North-South railway. There, the President considered the progress in construction of the railway and asked about the pace and quality of construction work.
The map of Bereket-Etrek section of the North-South transport corridor and the projects of infrastructure facilities were presented to the Turkmen leader for consideration. These include train stations and apartment houses, which will be built at railway stations on Bereket-Etrek section, and service rooms for local workers. In particular, the Turkmen leader considered the projects of train stations at the railway stations of Dyaneata, Dovletyar, Bygdaily, Balguyi, Madav, Akjadepe.
The projects of a number of facilities to be built in Etrek, where twenty apartment houses with modern conveniences, a train station and other necessary facilities will spring up, were presented to the Turkmen leader for consideration. An arch designed in an oriental style will be built there. The projects of 115 bridges, including 17 large bridges, were presented to the President for consideration. The projects of bridges will be implemented by the subdivisions of the Ministry of Railway Transport.
After thoroughly considering the projects, the President provided specific comments and recommendations. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave specific instructions on the construction of the arch at Etrek station - the symbolic 'gates' to Turkmenistan from neighbouring Iran that should be designed as originally as that at Serhetyaka station on the Turkmen-Kazakh border.
Then the Turkmen leader talked to the builders about the progress in construction of Bereket-Etrek section and their concerns and working and living conditions.
The President and the builders had a collective photograph taken at their request. Then the Turkmen leader presented valuable gifts to the workers. Summing up the results of the working visit, the President gave specific instructions to the high-ranking officials, focusing on the need to ensure the quality of work. The Turkmen leader cordially bade farewell to those present and left for Ashgabat.
