Scientific and Research centre on the Sustainable Development Goals in the Institute of International Relations

The new structure of the high school of diplomacy was opened in compliance with the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan with the aim to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda as well as ensure the relevant scientific and methodical work.

The centre opening ceremony took place on the first day of the new 2017-2018 academic year with the participation of the heads and specialists of international organisatios, representatives of foreign mass media accredited in Turkmenistan, the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development of the Ministry of Economic Development, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations, Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the International University of Humanitarian Sciences and Development.

The festivity started with the exhibition of the thematic publications, prepared by the UN agencies, accredited in our country.

During the meeting it was underlined that the scientific and research centre on the Sustainable Development will follow the legislation and international obligations of Turkmenistan.

The work of the centre will be built in the partnership with the Academy of Public Service, the National Institute of Education, the higher educational institutions, public organisations, UN Agencies as well as relevant international institutions.

The work on the sustainable development concept in the regional and global levels; implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals adjusted to the national conditions as well as promotion of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in Turkmenistan through educational programs, designed for students and public servants.

As is known, our country actively participated in the development and preparation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Turkmenistan ranks among the first states, UN members officially adopted all 17 articles of the Sustainable Development Goals and 148 tasks as well as 193 indicators on their implementation. The repeated election of Turkmenistan as the Vice-Chair of the UN General Assembly proves the high international authority of our country that puts forward initiatives on the establishment of new geopolitical and geo-economical space to meet the interests of the global development.

The target audience of the Centre includes the students of the high school of diplomacy, who study the aspects of sustainable development in the framework of various school disciplines, work on their course and graduation works on the foreign-policy initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan. The Institute offers special courses on transport and energy diplomacy and the international initiatives of the country on sustainable development.

According to Country Representative at UNICEF, Turkmenistan Shaheen Nilofer, the Scientific and Research centre will support the national implementation of the 2030 Agenda as well as the national commitments on sustainable development. It will become the platform for cooperation and exchange of best practices.

With assistance of the UN Permanent Mission in Turkmenistan, the International of International Relations will study the practices of the Scientific and Research centre on the Sustainable Development Goals in other countries.

It should be noted that the educational resource centre, supplied with multimedia technologies, will contribute to obtaining the necessary information on the introduction of the Sustainable Development Goals in the national, regional and global level. The introductory classes took place in the Centre on the first day of its work.
