The national rounds of the Eurasia Star Song Contest that has brought together singers from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey are taking place in our country. The major aims of the contest initiated by the Turkish TV channel TRT Avaz are to promote artistic contacts between the Turkic speaking countries, support young talented musicians, encourage the creative activity and popularize the national musical traditions.
According to the rules of the contest each member country submits one candidate to perform a song on live television in the final. The winner of the contest will be a singer, who will gain the greatest number of votes including jury and audience through SMS-voting. Now the preliminary stages are held in the countries participating in the contest.
Thus, more than 100 singers from all regions of the country took place in the first round of the contest in Turkmenistan. Of them, the jury selected 30 young artists notable for artistic and vocal skills and songs’ content. The Turkmen Ovazy TV channel and the Ovaz radio channel broadcast their performances. Broadcast spectators and listeners can vote for their favourite singers by sending SMS and, thus, influence the competitive selection process. As a result of voting 10 of 30 contenders will be qualified for the next round of competition.
The winners performed a concert at the Palace of Mukams of the National Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan. The concert was broadcast live. During the concert the young artists should demonstrate their artistic skills and win the sympathy of the large audience of TV viewers and radio listeners, who will vote for a particular singer. The number of SMS messages sent during the ‘reality show’ is a main criterion the jury will take into account when selecting an artist, who will be awarded with the honour to represent Turkmenistan at the Eurasia Star Song Contest.
The final of the contest will be broadcast on the national TV of each country and on the TRT Avaz channel in real time. According to the contest rules, participants will perform one song in the language of the hosting country and another song - in their native language. According to contestants’ choice, they can dance or play a musical instrument in the second number as well.
The SMS-rating will be made up in the final rounds. Members of the international jury will assess competitors giving them points. In the final no country has the right to vote for their artist. Each country hosting one of the international final rounds will provide a preview video telling about the country, which will be included into the broadcasting program.
The Grand Final, during which the name of the winner and holder of the title of the Eurasia Star will be announced, will be held in the country selected during the draw of the participating countries.
The results gained by the participants and the SMS-voting summed up during the Grand final will be announced there. In addition to the honorary title of the Eurasia Star, the winner will receive monetary prizes from the organizers of the international contest. Prizes will be awarded to all participants of the final round. But the main prize for young talents, of course, will be the spectators’ recognition. In addition, for many artists this contest will be a strong incentive for their professional growth and complete disclosure of their artistic skills, a wonderful opportunity to establish friendly and creative relations with their colleagues from other countries and gain popularity in those countries.
This promising international project is aimed to enhance the direct cultural contacts between the countries of the Eurasian continent, because with the lapse of time, the geography of the international contest will be significantly extended.
