Washington gets acquainted with Turkmen art

The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan continue in Washington.

The ceremony of opening the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan which took place at the Library of Congress and various events included in the programme of this cultural action drew attention of citizens and guests of Washington.

On November 28, the envoys of Turkmenistan, in particular specialists of the Ministry of Culture, held a meeting with the administrators of the US National Library. A focus of the meeting was the aspects of Turkmen-American cooperation in the cultural sphere. The possibilities for promoting artistic, scientific and literary contacts and collaboration between libraries were considered during the meeting. In this context the administrators of the Library of Congress suggested Turkmenistan’s joining the global project of the World Digital Library.

The programme of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States included the ceremony of opening an exposition of the works of Turkmen decorative and applied arts at the Meridian International Centre, a prestigious cultural and business centre in Washington.

Those speaking during the ceremony noted that this exhibition and the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States would certainly offer a new powerful incentive to foster the friendly dialogue between cultures and nations. It would provide the Americans and guests from different countries of the world to learn about the history and culture of Turkmenistan, discover and fall in love with this wonderful land, where generous, hospitable, hard-working and talented people live.

This fact is illustrated by a bright exposition presenting the priceless collections of wonderful carpet articles and pieces of jewellery, handmade embroideries and many other beautiful articles, the works by prominent Turkmen artists and masters of decorative and applied art from the depositaries of the Main National Museum of Turkmenistan and the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan.

The performances of famous Turkmen musicians added loftiness and festiveness to the opening ceremony. Folk melodies are the best accompaniment to a journey to the world of Turkmen art and talent of the Turkmen people.

In Washington the officials of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the US Department of State held the meetings. The agenda focused on the possibilities for conducting the consultations to expand further bilateral humanitarian cooperation, promote artistic and scientific exchanges and develop joint cultural projects.

In the framework of the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in the United States the artistic delegation of our country has visited the University of Maryland, where Turkmen artists had a meeting with students and teachers of the School of Music of this prestigious university and performed a concert today.

Turkmen musicians arranged a concert at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts on that evening.

The envoys of our country continue their acquaintance with landmarks of Washington. They will visit the Smithsonian Institution museums, the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at John Hopkins University.
