The opening ceremony of the II International Festival “Theatre Arts in the Happy Epoch” took place in Ashgabat. The arts forum is organized by the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan in accordance with the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The repertoire of the theatre festival that has brought together 16 theatre companies from 14 countries of the world presents different theatrical genres. Turkmenistan is represented by the theatres of Ashgabat and the regions of our country.
The venue for the opening ceremony was the Palace of Mukams of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan. The colourful parade of festival participants on the square in front of the Palace was some kind of prelude to the forum. All the participants, who marched under the banners of their countries, were greeted cordially by numerous spectators. The festivities continued in the foyer of the Palace of Mukams, where the personages of Turkmen and world classical literature welcomed numerous participants and spectators. The history and present day of the theatre art in our country were presented in an exposition arranged in the foyer.

In the afternoon, the main activities of the theatre art forum moved to the stages of the theatres in Ashgabat, where a number of theatre companies from Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and China presented their performances.
The theatre companies from Tajikistan, St. Petersburg and Astrakhan Oblast of the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, the United States, Iran, Turkey and Turkmenistan will present their performance in the framework of the theatre festival tomorrow. The interesting programme, including the visits to museums and other landmarks in Ashgabat, is prepared for foreign participants.
