Ashgabat hosts the Indian Film Festival

The ceremony of opening the Festival of Indian Cinematography took place at the Watan Cinema and Concert Centre in Ashgabat this week. Citizens of Turkmenistan can watch new films produced by the Bollywood film industry, the biggest film industry in Asia, on each Friday till April 6.


Indian films have been enjoying a great popularity among Turkmen moviegoers for many years. The quintessence of Indian cinematography has been and is love, a conflict between good and evil and the triumph of good over evil. These life-asserting films permeated with optimism have become a part of life of their admirers arousing the feeling of empathy for the main heroes. Many of Indian films are so popular that the spectators quote the dialogues anticipating a happy ending.

Maintaining and enriching the musical and dramatic traditions of the national cinematographic art, the films on the festival programme attracts by colourful and stirring songs and dances enchanting with their exotic melodies as none of the others. The programme of the Indian festival presents the films of various genres, and whatever the story begins with it will always end happily.
