As part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, the Student theatre named after Mollanepes premiered the play «Güneş».

A unique adaptation of famous poem of Edgar Allan Poe «The raven», the production tells the story of a man who struggles with tragedy, poverty, and addiction, yet creates world-renowned works.

Director Merdan Handurdyyev, along with students from the Turkmen state institute of Culture, immersed themselves in the mysterious world of Edgar Allan Poe. A story of love, irony, and death unfolds on stage, told through sound and light, creating a unique atmosphere of mysticism and tragedy.

The plot centres on a student who is grief-stricken over the death of his beloved Lenore. One night, a talking raven flies into his house. In despair, he asks the bird questions, but receives only one devastating answer: «Never». The finale of the play is one of utter hopelessness. The protagonist realises that his soul will forever remain in the shadow of despair and will emerge from this world «never».

The play blurs the line between reality and fiction, revealing the inner world of author and his experiences. It vividly embodies idea of Poe that «all we see is but a dream within a dream». The stage design, created by the set designers, plays a vital role in creating the magical atmosphere.

The new production was a striking gift for the opening of Foreign drama week, which will take place in the national theatres of the country from 6th to 12th of December.

Theatre is a universal means of communication that helps overcome language and cultural barriers. It promotes mutual understanding and strengthens peace between peoples. This year, declared the International year of peace and trust, art takes on special significance, bringing people together and fostering dialogue between cultures.
