Ashgabat Declaration: artificial intelligence should contribute to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development

Participants of the International Forum of Peace and Trust held in Ashgabat—heads of state and government—spoke in favor of the ethical use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. This is stated in the Ashgabat Declaration adopted following the forum.

“We recognize the potential of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to contribute to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development, while at the same time firmly emphasizing the need to ensure their ethical use in accordance with the goals and principles of the Charter of the United Nations,” notes the international document.

High-level delegates, in line with the forum’s agenda, also agreed that peace, trust, and dialogue remain the most important pillars of international relations and the foundation of a just, inclusive, and secure world order.

“We emphasize that in an increasingly complex and interdependent world, a culture of peace and trust must be strengthened through sustained political will, open communication, and genuine multilateral dialogue, as reflected in the goals and principles of the UN Charter, and in this regard we welcome the activities of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations,” states the Ashgabat Declaration.

The International Forum, dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, was held in Ashgabat on December 12. It was attended by the Presidents of Armenia, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, and Uzbekistan, as well as the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Pakistan, and a number of other states.
