Strategic unity: results of 2025 in relations between Turkmenistan and Türkiye

A briefing by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to Turkmenistan, Ahmet Demirok, was held in Ashgabat. The head of the diplomatic mission summed up the past year, highlighting key achievements in trade, energy, and the construction sector.

Speaking to media representatives, Ahmet Demirok expressed deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The Ambassador emphasised that it was their support and personal contribution that became the key to the colossal progress in the political-diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian spheres in 2025.

«The interaction between our countries is developing on the basis of strong friendship and brotherhood. We are proud to see how Turkmenistan, by its 35th anniversary of independence, has transformed itself into a modern state with exemplary infrastructure», − the diplomat noted.

Moving on to economic relations in specific figures, A. Demirok emphasised that Türkiye maintains its status as one of the largest trading partners of Turkmenistan. The statistics he provided confirmed the positive dynamics.

Thus, from January to November 2025, the volume of mutual trade reached 2 billion USA dollars. In this context, the Ambassador expressed confidence that the parties will reach the target of 5 billion dollars in the near future.

The speaker paid special attention to the contribution of Turkish business. It was noted that over the years of independence, Turkish companies have implemented more than 1000 projects in Turkmenistan worth a total of over 54 billion dollars. Currently, the portfolio of current and new projects contains orders for another 10 billion dollars, including a commitment to participate in the second phase of the Arkadag «smart city» development.

Summing up the cooperation of countries in the fuel and energy sector, the diplomat noted that 2025 will be a historic year for energy partnership. On the 1st of March, Turkmen gas supplies to Türkiye began through Iran under a swap agreement signed between BOTAŞ and «Türkmengaz» on the 10th of February, 2025.

As part of the review of transport and logistics issues, the head of the diplomatic mission placed emphasis on the development of the «Middle corridor».

Turkmenistan and Türkiye act as connecting links between Central Asia and Europe. In this aspect, A. Demirok pointed out the growing global interest in the Trans-Caspian international transport route (Middle corridor).

In this direction, the multimodality of processes was brought to the forefront. The Ambassador stated that Türkiye supports the simplification of customs and logistics operations at the bilateral and trilateral levels with the participation of Azerbaijan, and also confirms its readiness to further develop the potential of the Turkmenbashy International seaport.

Concluding the briefing, Ambassador A. Demirok expressed the desire of the Turkish Government and the businesses of the country to continue to build constructive cooperation, exchanging experiences and strengthening status of Turkmenistan as a reliable energy and transport partner in the Eurasian region.
