A ceremony was held at the Magtymguly Pyragy Cultural and Park Complex to lay flowers at the monument to the great Uzbek poet, thinker, and statesman Alisher Navoi.

The event, organized to mark the 585th anniversary of the birth of the great classical figure, brought together representatives of diplomatic missions. Participants laid symbolic wreaths and bouquets of flowers at the foot of the monument.

Addressing those gathered, Ravshanbek Alimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan, noted that the memory of the great poet serves as a constant reminder of the importance of mutual trust, peace, and respect for one’s roots. It was emphasized that Alisher Navoi, as the founder of the Uzbek literary language, made an invaluable contribution to the development of Turkic languages.

The Ambassador expressed deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for the high regard shown for Navoi’s legacy, symbolized by the monument installed in the new cultural and park complex of the capital.

Special attention during the event was given to the spiritual continuity between Alisher Navoi and the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi. Magtymguly revered Navoi as his spiritual mentor and often turned to his wisdom in his works, seeing in him a symbol of the unity of cultures and languages of the Turkic peoples. As a testament to the enduring nature of these ties, children dressed in traditional national costumes recited excerpts from Navoi’s famous ghazals. Immortal lines were also heard, calling on people across the Earth to live in friendship and harmony.

The commemorative events continued at the D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, where faculty members and students discussed the philosophical and humanistic aspects of the poet’s work. Earlier, themed creative meetings and readings were held at the Bazar Amanov State Children’s Library of Turkmenistan.

In Turkmenistan, the name of Alisher Navoi is held in deep respect. The classic poet’s ideas of humanism and moral perfection retain their relevance today, serving as a reliable foundation for strengthening friendly Turkmen–Uzbek relations. The events held once again confirmed the strength of the bonds of friendship and the shared spiritual values between the two neighboring states.
