The State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan has launched an exhibition of works by students and faculty titled “Sungat äleminiň bahary” (“Spring of the World of Art”), dedicated to International Women’s Day on March 8. Notably, the ceremonial opening concluded with a mini-concert. Students Serdar Jumayev and Aynur Guvanjova performed the song “Extraordinary Eyes,” and the festive performance continued with student Yalkab Sakhetov singing “To the Sisters.”

This unusual opening of the exhibition enhanced the celebratory mood of the visitors. The displayed paintings were filled with flowers: “Festive Study” by Myakhri Ishanakulieva, “Five Tulips” by Roza Agakhanova, “Flowers” by Oguljahan Yazgalaeva, “Flower” by Lachyn Shirmyradova, and many others. Roses, daisies, gladioli, irises, and poppies adorned the canvases and tapestries, competing in beauty and beckoning visitors to admire them. Flowers are the hallmark of spring and the best gift for women. Even the designers presented bouquets made of cubes, spheres, and other geometric shapes for the holiday.

A particularly attractive feature of the exhibition was the display by People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Dursunsoltan Mukhamedova. The display consisted of five paintings, four of which featured exquisitely beautiful flowers in bloom, while at the center was the “Portrait of the Beauty Maral.” Dursunsoltan Mukhamedova is a well-known ceramic artist but also successfully works as a painter.

The poetic line “Moonlight in the dark night” from a poem by Magtymguly Pyragy was used by Hatyja Amansakhedova for her painting “Gozelim.” She depicted a beautiful Turkmen girl leading a magnificent Akhal-Teke horse by the reins. In the moonlight, the beauty of the two subjects of the painting takes on a mysterious meaning—Akhal-Teke horses are recognized as the most beautiful horses in the world, but look closely at the girl—doesn’t her beauty rival that of the most beautiful woman on the planet?

Nurjahan Kulieva and Gulshat Rejepova are students from different years and different faculties. However, both are seriously passionate about designing women’s national clothing. The young women presented an original collection of six models of modern everyday and festive attire at the exhibition.

“Like all Turkmen girls, Gulshat and I love sewing and creating fashionable clothing,” says Nurjahan, “and we must admit, we are quite good at it. Under a contract, we collaborate with a fashion store, and when we see women and girls on the streets wearing our creations, our happiness knows no bounds.”

Students from the carpet department also distinguished themselves with their handicrafts—they presented an impressive number of carpet handbags at the exhibition. To accommodate such a large number of items, three separate displays had to be arranged. As a result, every fashion-conscious visitor could choose a bag matching any outfit.

The exhibition “Spring of the World of Art” fully lived up to its name. Through various forms of art, the authors succeeded in conveying a festive mood to the visitors.
