The issues of strengthening position of Turkmenistan in the global maritime transportation market became a key topic of the report by deputy-prime and minister of foreign affairs R. Meredov at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on the digital system.
Turkmenistan, being a member of the International maritime organisation (IMO) since 1993, has already joined 14 international conventions. Now the country is taking the next step in integrating into the global transport system.
In this context, a number of proposals were made aimed at implementing the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan in the field of transport diplomacy. Thus, it is planned to create a working group, which will include representatives of relevant ministries to coordinate work on joining the new IMO documents.
One of the priorities will be to join the Convention on the facilitation of international maritime navigation, which will simplify procedures in ports and accelerate cargo turnover. It was also proposed to organise visits of the IMO leadership to Turkmenistan, to hold a series of practical conferences and seminars.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the submitted proposals and addressed a number of instructions to the deputy-prime, the minister of foreign affairs.
