On 25 March 2026, a meeting was held at the MFA of Turkmenistan dedicated to the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Universal Periodic Review in the area of ensuring gender equality. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova, Vice-Chairperson of the UN CEDAW Committee Marianne Mikko, representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Office of the Ombudsperson, relevant ministries and agencies of the country, as well as international organizations, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and UNFPA.

The meeting opened with welcoming remarks by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova, who emphasized Turkmenistan’s consistent commitment to its international obligations in the field of women’s rights and gender equality, including the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. It was noted that the recommendations developed following the constructive dialogue with the CEDAW Committee in February 2024 are regarded as an important practical guide for the further improvement of the national system for the protection of women’s rights.

During the meeting, participants discussed practical steps for the implementation of the CEDAW Committee’s recommendations, the improvement of national mechanisms for the protection of women’s rights, and the development of inter-agency cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the Roadmap developed for the implementation of the CEDAW recommendations, as well as to the implementation of the next cycle of the National Action Plan on Ensuring Gender Equality for 2026-2030.

Following the discussion, the participants reaffirmed the importance of maintaining regular dialogue with international organizations and drawing on international experience to further improve the national legal and institutional framework for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
