On 25 March 2026, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova held a meeting with Charlotte Adrian, Head of the Central Asia and Afghanistan Unit of the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) of the European Commission. During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union. The sides also considered current issues of trade and economic cooperation. The importance of developing transport and transit connectivity between Central Asia and the European Union was noted.
Another part of the agenda focused on cooperation in the energy sector. Mutual interest was expressed in continuing the sectoral dialogue, including within the existing energy cooperation format, as well as in expanding partnership in the areas of green development and the climate agenda.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In particular, they discussed the implementation in Turkmenistan and the region of a number of EU programmes and projects aimed at supporting youth, sustainable energy, trade, digital connectivity and other areas.
The sides confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and the EU both bilaterally and within the framework of the Central Asia-European Union dialogue.
