The opening session of the Turkmenistan-European Union business forum, «New horizons for strengthening connectivity, attracting investment, and sustainable development», held in Ashgabat on the 26th of March, focused on long-term foreign policy priorities and economic integration. Atageldi Haljanov, Head of the international economic cooperation department at the MFA of Turkmenistan, presented a systemic vision for the partnership, highlighting three key areas capable of achieving maximum results.
A. Haljanov emphasised that in today's world, as global conditions change, the value of long-term partnerships is paramount. In this regard, Turkmenistan continues to act as a strategic bridge between Europe and Asia. The central place in this architecture is occupied by the Trans-Caspian transit and transport corridor.
«This corridor is the foundation for constructive interaction, and by aligning our work with the «Global Gateway» initiative, we can ensure this path through digitalisation procedures and the provision of secure trade routes», − the Foreign Ministry representative noted, identifying this area as the first factor.
The second foundation of the partnership was identified as the creation of a transparent and predictable regulatory environment. Particular emphasis was placed on the country's course towards joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO). This step is seen as official confirmation of readiness of Turkmenistan for large-scale economic modernisation and global integration, where European business acts as a transformational partner.
The third priority is shared responsibility for the climate agenda, in which Turkmenistan has expressed a direct commitment to environmental standards. These include reducing methane emissions through the implementation of specific decarbonisation programs and the introduction of «green» technologies in the fuel and energy complex.
