On March 31, 2026, a solemn opening ceremony for the monument to the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy was held in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, Balkh Province, Afghanistan, following the completion of renovation and restoration works. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.  

The ceremony was attended by members of the Turkmen diaspora and staff from the Consulate General of Turkmenistan in Afghanistan. This event serves as another testament to the ongoing efforts to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and strengthen the respect for national values among compatriots living abroad.

It was noted that the restoration of the monument was carried out at the initiative of Haji Mohammad Hashim Wali Zada, Chairman of the "Akyol" Social and Cultural Organization, with financial support from the Turkmen community living in Afghanistan.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Mazar-i-Sharif, Abdul Rahman Hemmet, the Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan in Balkh Province, Mawlawi Aminullah Sadyq, as well as religious scholars, teachers, cultural figures, and representatives of social organizations.

Speakers during the event emphasized that the rich literary legacy of the great master of words is significant not only for the Turkmen people but also for world culture. They also highlighted the vital role of Magtymguly Pyragy’s creative work in educating the younger generation in the national spirit.
