Silkworm Rearing Begins at “Lebapwelaýatýüpek”

In the Lebap velayat, large-scale work on silkworm cultivation has begun, with sericulture farmers from the Koytendag, Dowletli, Kerki, and Halach etraps being the first to start. This season, they have been set clear targets: farmers in Koytendag plan to produce 38 tons of cocoons from 1,042 boxes of silkworm eggs, in Dowletli — 46 tons from 1,259 boxes, while producers in Kerki and Halach have committed to delivering 85 and 97 tons of raw material respectively.

Favorable weather conditions and sufficient rainfall contributed to the early ripening of mulberry leaves, which made it possible to hatch the caterpillars in a timely manner and distribute them among leaseholders who have signed contracts with the production association “Lebapwelaýatýüpek.”

At the same time, in the remaining etraps of the velayat, silkworm eggs have already been placed in incubators, and local farms will soon enter the active phase of caring for this valuable crop. In total, sericulture farmers of the velayat aim to produce 1,010 tons of high-quality raw material, relying on thorough preliminary preparation and strict adherence to biological standards. Regular consultations with specialized experts, who monitor the conditions in which the caterpillars are raised, are intended to ensure the efficiency of the sector and guarantee the fulfillment of the planned harvest targets.
