An exhibition titled “Türkmeniň taryhy kökleri” (“Historical Roots of the Turkmen”) was held at the Lebap Velayat Museum of History and Local Lore in honor of the glorious 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence. The event was organized jointly by the Lebap velayat khakimlik, the main departments of education and culture, public organizations, as well as higher and secondary vocational educational institutions located in the city of Turkmenabat.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by professionals from the fields of education and culture, active members of public organizations, and student youth.
The exhibition features museum artifacts that make it possible to trace the historical roots of the Turkmen people and reflect the rich heritage of the nation, which goes back thousands of years.
During the ceremonial opening, speeches were delivered that placed special emphasis on the heroic path traveled by our ancestors over the centuries, the national heritage that has become an integral part of world culture, as well as the large-scale work being carried out in the country to study, preserve, and pass it on to future generations. It was proudly noted that activities in this area have gained particular significance since Turkmenistan achieved independence, with ongoing scientific research and methodological as well as practical work being conducted nationwide.
It was especially emphasized that, in connection with the declaration of 2026 as the Year of “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses,” various events are being organized across the country dedicated to one of the greatest treasures of the nation—the Turkmen horse. The work being carried out to develop the national art of horse breeding and to promote Akhal-Teke horses worldwide is yielding positive results.
In this context, it was noted that it has become a good tradition to widely celebrate the National Day of the Turkmen Horse on the last Sunday of April throughout the country, during which beauty contests among horses and other events are organized. In addition, horse races are held annually in equestrian complexes during the spring and autumn seasons. The establishment in 2010, at the initiative of Hero-Arkadag, of the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding with its headquarters in Ashgabat, as well as the opening of the International Academy of Horse Breeding named after Aba Annayev in the city of Arkadag, serve as evidence of the large-scale work being carried out in the country to promote equestrian sports and expand cooperation in this field with all interested foreign partners.
After the official opening of the exhibition, participants familiarized themselves with the museum exhibits, including those dedicated to Turkmen horses.
