The IV International open Olympiad in informatics was held at the oil and gas University of Turkmenistan

From the 15th to 16th of April, the IV International open internet Olympiad in informatics among students of higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan and abroad was held at the International university of oil and gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev.

793 students from 57 universities from 16 countries took part in the Olympiad, including Turkmenistan, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, Germany, Romania, Malaysia, Georgia, Türkiye, Armenia, Saudi Arabia and Libya.

The opening ceremony of the Olympiad was attended by representatives of the teaching staff and students of the Turkmen university, as well as students of universities in foreign countries and their teacher-supervisors, who joined the event via digital video communication.

The rector of the Turkmen university B. Atamanov spoke at the ceremony, who congratulated all participants on the opening of the Olympiad, thanked the students and their scientific supervisors for their interest in the competition and wished the students brilliant success and bright victories.

After the completion of the ceremonial part of the event, the students began to complete the tasks of the Olympiad, which was held in an individual format. Participants were given a total of 10 assignments covering areas such as algorithmic programming, data analytics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. 120 minutes were allotted to complete the tasks.

As a result of the Olympiad, students from Turkmen universities especially distinguished themselves and won prizes: the Institute of telecommunications and informatics of Turkmenistan, the International University of oil and gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev, the State energy institute of Turkmenistan, the Institute of national security of Turkmenistan and the Engineering and technology university of Turkmenistan named after Oguz han.

Students from foreign universities showed excellent preparation in the subject and good results. Prizes were awarded to participants from the National research technical university named after K.I. Satpayev (Kazakhstan), Bukhara state university (Uzbekistan), Polotsk state university named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk (Belarus) and other foreign universities.

The winners of the Olympiad were determined by the amount of points scored, calculated using national software specially developed by the Turkmen university. Based on the results of the individual competition based on the overall score of the participating universities, the results of the team championship were also summed up.

Winners and runners-up were awarded diplomas of I, II and III degrees.

As the organisers noted, the International internet Olympiad in informatics demonstrated the confident development of the digital education system in Turkmenistan and the high level of digital literacy and culture among youth.

The Olympiad has been successfully held by the university for the fourth year in a row and is an effective platform for identifying talented and capable youth, creating favourable conditions for their further intellectual development and professional choice, training young specialists capable of analysing scientific and practical problems arising in modern computer science and related fields.
