Delegation of Turkmenistan is participating in the annual summit of the International Transport Forum

During the period 6 to 8 May 2026, the delegation of Turkmenistan is taking part in the annual summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF), being held in the German city of Leipzig. The forum is being chaired by Azerbaijan. The theme is Funding Resilient Transport and it is the second part of the ITF’s three-year summit programme for 2025–2027, dedicated to transport sustainability. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

The forum brought together transport ministers from 69 ITF member states, heads of leading industry companies, representatives of the academic community and international organizations.

The Turkmen delegation is headed by Suleyman Durdiyev, the Deputy Chairman of the State Service Turkmenairlines (Turkmenhovayollary). The delegation also consists of representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Railway Transport.

Participants of the event are discussing possibilities of attracting investments and develop financing strategies aimed at enhancing the resilience of transport systems in the face of growing risks – climate change, extreme weather occurrences, pandemics, cyber attacks and geopolitical instability.

The country’s participation in such a prominent international forum is a natural continuation of the determined work that Turkmenistan is undertaking to implement large-scale transport initiatives. Under the leadership of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the country is systematically diversifying its international transport corridors, a comprehensive modernization of infrastructure for all modes of transport is being carried out, and a reliable transit and logistics system is being established that meets the modern requirements of global trade.

The promotion of the principles of transport diplomacy holds a special place in Turkmenistan’s state policy. The country actively advocates the digitalization of the sector, the introduction of pioneering innovative technologies and the development of environmentally friendly modes of transport, which is fully in line with global sustainable development goals. Turkmenistan is consistently strengthening its position as a key transit hub in the Eurasian region, contributing to economic stability and mutually beneficial cooperation both within the region and on the international stage.
