Ashgabat – A City of Innovation and Sustainable Development

The 25th International Multidisciplinary Exhibition and Conference “White City Ashgabat – 2026” was held in the capital of Turkmenistan. The large-scale forum, organized under the slogan “Architecture. Innovation. Sustainable Development,” was arranged by the Ashgabat City Hyakimlik and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan with the support of Turkmen Energy Forum.

One of the key events of the conference was the speech delivered by the Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan, Annageldi Saparov, who outlined the current state of the country’s energy sector in detail and identified the strategic priorities for its modernization and integration into the global digital economy.

As the minister emphasized, modern Ashgabat is a vivid symbol of progress, where reliable energy infrastructure plays a key role in ensuring a high quality of life for citizens and the dynamic development of the metropolis.

“At present, the ministry oversees 11 power plants with a total installed capacity of more than 6,500 megawatts. This makes it possible not only to fully meet the country’s domestic needs, but also to steadily increase electricity exports,” stated A. Saparov.

As part of the implementation of the sustainable development concept, the relevant ministry pays special attention to diversifying energy sources. In particular, the country is actively studying the potential of renewable energy sources.

“With the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), comprehensive studies of Turkmenistan’s wind energy potential are currently being carried out. The data obtained will form the basis of the scientific framework necessary to identify the most effective locations for the construction of future wind power plants, which is expected to make a significant contribution to the environmental safety of our city and country,” said the speaker.

An important step toward integrating Turkmenistan into global technological trends has been the improvement of the legal and regulatory framework. It should be recalled that on January 1, 2026, the Law “On Virtual Assets” came into force, legalizing cryptocurrency mining and the operation of cryptocurrency exchanges in the country.

“In further development of this direction, the Ministry of Energy is conducting preliminary negotiations and meetings with relevant international companies. The discussion concerns the creation of modern Data Processing Centers (DPC) for high-performance computing. The implementation of these projects will make it possible to effectively utilize surplus electricity generated in the country and integrate the national energy system into the digital economy,” said A. Saparov.

In concluding his report, the Minister of Energy emphasized Turkmenistan’s openness to international cooperation and called on interested partners to engage in dialogue for the implementation of promising initiatives aimed at improving Ashgabat’s energy efficiency.

The head of the ministry also expressed deep gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for their comprehensive support of the energy sector and their constant care for the prosperity of the state.
