A delegation from Turkmenistan took part in the «Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit 2026», which was held in Beijing. The forum is organised by the World tourism cities federation.
The summit brought together representatives of government agencies, tourism organisations, and the expert community from dozens of countries. The Turkmen delegation included representatives of the Ministry of culture and the Ashgabat city hakimlik.
During the event, participants discussed current trends in the development of the global tourism industry. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of digital technologies, including the use of AI, to improve the quality of services provided. Innovative solutions such as robotic tour guides, intelligent translation systems, and digital services aimed at improving traveler service were also showcased.

In his speech, A. Agamyradov, head of the tourism department of the Ministry of culture of Turkmenistan, noted that Ashgabat was accepted as a member of the World tourism cities federation in 2020. As has been emphasised, the Turkmen capital, rightfully called the «pearl of Asia», has become a center for international conferences, forums, cultural and sporting events in recent years. It was particularly noted that Ashgabat has established itself as a city that meets modern international requirements for welcoming guests and providing high-quality hotel and tourism services. The international conferences, exhibitions and forums held in the capital are clear evidence of this.
A. Agamyradov reported that work is currently underway to include the cities of Koneurgench, Mary, Turkmenabat, and others, as well as the seaside resort of Avaza, in the World tourism cities federation, which will further promote the international image of Turkmenistan as a popular tourist destination. It was emphasised that the recognition of independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan as one of the most favourable travel destinations, as well as the attention paid to the development of the tourism industry in the country, serve as clear evidence of the successful implementation of national policy in this area.
The participation of the Turkmen delegation in the summit contributed to the strengthening of international cooperation, the exchange of experience, and the study of best practices in the field of tourism. The forum became a platform for promoting tourism potential of Turkmenistan, based on its rich historical and cultural heritage and modern infrastructure.
