Memorial Ceremony Marking the 85th Anniversary of the Beginning of the Great Patriotic War Held in Ashgabat

A solemn memorial ceremony dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow and the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 was held at the Memorial Alley adjacent to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan. The event was attended by diplomats, representatives of the public, and members of the clergy.

Addressing those gathered, Ivan Volynkin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, emphasized the importance of preserving the historical memory of the wartime years. The head of the diplomatic mission called for comprehensive support and utmost attention to war veterans and home-front workers, stressing the need to preserve the memory of their heroic deeds for future generations.

“Dear friends, we honor the memory of those who never returned from the battlefields, those who died in hospitals, and those who worked on the home front. We treat our veterans with great respect. They speak sparingly about those times, which is entirely natural and understandable. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer of them remain with us each year, but we will always give them our highest attention, because these are the people who gave us life,” said the Ambassador.

As part of the event, students of the A.S. Pushkin Joint Turkmen-Russian Secondary School recited poems dedicated to the wartime years. Accredited representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps in Turkmenistan, as well as clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church, also paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the war.
