On 25 June 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine held solemn events dedicated to the Day of Cultural and Art Workers of Turkmenistan and the Poetry Day of the great thinker and classical poet Magtymguly Pyragy. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

The programme began with a solemn flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Magtymguly Pyragy in Kyiv, bringing together representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, members of the diplomatic corps, government authorities, academic circles, the creative community, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora and students.

Participants noted that the monument serves as a symbol of long-standing friendship, mutual respect and strong cultural and humanitarian ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The celebrations continued with an official reception held at the premises of the diplomatic mission of Turkmenistan. Addressing the guests, Ambassador of Turkmenistan Toyly Atayev emphasized that the current year, held under the motto “Independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan — homeland of the purposeful heavenly horses,” is marked by preparations for the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.

The head of the diplomatic mission highlighted that the preservation and promotion of national heritage remain among the priorities of state policy implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, based on the initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The speech also focused on the international recognition of Magtymguly Pyragy’s legacy, including its inclusion in the UNESCO “Memory of the World” register.

The Ukrainian side was represented by a greeting speech from a representative of the Central Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, who confirmed the country’s strong interest in the continued development of multifaceted bilateral cooperation.

The enduring spiritual value and humanitarian ideals of the works of the Turkmen classical poet were highlighted in a speech by Pavlo Movchan, Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Society “Prosvita” named after Taras Shevchenko and twice recipient of the Magtymguly Pyragy Medal.

The festive atmosphere was enhanced by a cultural programme, during which representatives of the Turkmen diaspora recited the poet’s works in Turkmen and Ukrainian, and performed musical compositions on traditional instruments — the dutar and gijak. A book and illustrative exhibition was also arranged for the guests, featuring editions of Magtymguly Pyragy’s works in different languages and scholarly publications about his life and legacy.
