On September 9, 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Turkmenistan Luc Pierre Devigne. Ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state.
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for taking the time to meet, the diplomat noted that it is a great honor for him to represent the European Union in Turkmenistan. Taking this opportunity, the Ambassador conveyed warm greetings to the head of state and the National Leader of the Turkmen people on behalf of the President of the European Council António Costa and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Conveying his best wishes to the leadership of the European Union, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov cordially congratulated Luc Pierre Devigne on his appointment to this high diplomatic post and wished him great success in fulfilling his responsible mission for the further development of relations between our country and the European Union.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is committed to collaboration with the European Union, which is one of its important international partners.
During the meeting, it was noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to further development of political dialogue with the European Union and to intensifying the exchange of views on topical issues of the international and regional agenda of mutual interest.
The trade and economic sphere was named as one of the key vectors of interaction. In this context, the head of state noted the presence of great opportunities for increasing trade turnover, expanding business contacts with companies from European countries, and implementing new investment projects. Along with this, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan pays great attention to cooperation in areas such as energy, transport and logistics, industry, agriculture, digital technologies, and environmental protection.
Special emphasis was placed on the importance of developing partnership between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the transport and communication sector. In this regard, it was noted that unfolding the potential of routes from the Caspian Sea to European markets and the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor serves mutual interests.
In addition, it was noted that there are extensive opportunities for deepening cooperation in the energy sector, including areas such as the development of renewable energy sources and the transition to a green economy.
The cultural and humanitarian sphere stands as an integral component of the interaction. In this regard, it was emphasized that contacts in education, science, and culture serve to strengthen mutual trust.
Expressing his gratitude once again to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for time allocated for meeting, the diplomat assured the head of state that he will make every effort to further develop friendly relations between the European Union and Turkmenistan.
