The 111th meeting of the Economic council of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held at the «Ýyldyz» hotel in the capital. The summit became an effective platform for constructive discussion of current economic partnership challenges and intensified interaction, taking into account the existing trade and investment potential of the CIS countries.
The organisation and holding of this representative forum demonstrated consistent position of Turkmenistan aimed at expanding multilateral dialogue and strengthening productive relations within the Commonwealth.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan H. Geldimyradov delivered a welcoming speech and report at the meeting.
In his speech, the deputy-prime emphasised the strategic role of spaces of the Commonwealth in the modern global transport system. According to him, the unique geographic location of the CIS countries allows them to act as a key link in the formation of sustainable logistics routes between Europe and Asia. In this regard, particular importance is attached to the development of the international transport corridors «North-South» and «East-West».
Particular attention was paid to the Caspian region as a vital component of the international transport and logistics infrastructure. H. Geldimyradov emphasised strong interest of Turkmenistan in effectively utilising transit potential of the Caspian sea through mutually beneficial cooperation.
Moreover, during its chairmanship, Turkmenistan put forward an initiative to declare 2029 the year of transport connectivity. As noted at the meeting, the implementation of this initiative could provide a powerful impetus to the entire system of transport interaction among the Commonwealth countries.
