The women's team of Turkmenistan won its fourth victory at the 46^th World Chess Olympiad, which is ongoing in Samarkand. In the 5th round, she sensationally won with a score of 2.5:1.5 against the 28^th-ranked team from Argentina, which has an international grandmaster on the first board and international masters on the next three.

Before meeting the team from Turkmenistan, the Argentines won three victories at the start and only suffered their only defeat in the fourth round with a score of 1:3 to the tournament favorites, the chess players from Uzbekistan. Therefore, in the match against the 55^th-seeded Turkmenistan women's team with an average rating of 2057, experts favoured the higher-ranked Argentina team. However, the events that unfolded on the boards refuted the boldest predictions.

The victory of our team was secured by FIDE women's master Jahan Rejepova (rating 2027) and Mahri Agamyradova (1939), who played on the third and fourth boards. The first won against women's international master Anapaola Borda Rodas (2204), and the second defeated women's international master Anna Laura Scarsi (2212). Despite the defeat of FIDE women's candidate master Leyla Shohradova (2101) on the second board against women's international master Maria José Campos (2230), FIDE Master Lala Shohradova (2147), playing on the first board, also contributed to the team's overall success by drawing with Grandmaster Candela Be Francisco Gekamburu (2268).

Following this victory, the team of Mergen Kakabayev climbed another 10 places in the standings, occupying a high 26^th place among 190 women's teams with 8 points. It is noteworthy that the gap from the top four is only 2 points.

The men's team of Turkmenistan, seeded 65^th with an average rating of 2383, also performed well in the 5^th round, drawing 2:2 with the significantly higher-rated team of Slovakia (seeded 38^th), which includes three grandmasters and one international master. The only victory in our group was secured on the second board by International Grandmaster Meylis Annaberdiyev (2384), who defeated Grandmaster Peter Michalik (2543). Grandmaster Saparmyrat Atabayev (rating 2503) and FIDE Master Amanmuhammet Hommadov (2389), playing on the first and third boards, drew their games against Grandmaster Jergus Pechac (2538) and International Master Samir Sahidi (2478), respectively. Meanwhile, Shahruh Turayev (2222), playing on the fourth board, lost to Grandmaster Juraj Druska (2459).

After five rounds, the team led by Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan Serdar Annaberdiyev retained 36^th place out of 206 teams in the open tournament, having secured 7 points.

The 46^th World Chess Olympiad, held over 11 rounds according to the Swiss system, concludes on the 27^th of September.
