On 3 November 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and President of the Federal Council of the Republic of Austria Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, who arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a representative delegation. During the meeting, the sides noted the dynamic development of bilateral relations in the political-diplomatic, trade-еconomic, social and cultural- humanitarian spheres.

It was particularly emphasized that high-level contacts serve as a key driving force behind the development of Turkmen-Austrian relations. In this context, the importance of meetings between the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, as well as the President of Turkmenistan, and the Federal President of the Republic of Austria was highlighted.

The sides noted the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, particularly the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). They expressed their commitment to continuing the positive practice of partnership in the interests of peace, stability and sustainable development, in accordance with the policy of neutrality pursued by both states.

The meeting also addressed opportunities for strengthening interparliamentary ties and expanding cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

Trade and economic cooperation was another important topic of discussion. During the current visit of Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, President of the Federal Council of the Republic of Austria, she is accompanied by a sizeable business delegation comprising executives and representatives of more than 30 Austrian companies.

In addition, the sides exchanged views on the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Austria.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening Turkmen-Austrian relations, emphasizing the important role of interparliamentary dialogue in expanding bilateral cooperation.
