Construction of the new Ashgabat-Dashoguz highway has begun in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan has launched large-scale construction of a new Ashgabat-Dashoguz highway, approximately 550 kilometers long, which is intended to become a key link in the «North-South» transport corridor. The ceremony took place with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremonies for new infrastructure facilities in the Dashoguz velayat and the opening of a highway in the Balkan velayat, the head of state emphasised the continuity of ancestral traditions.

«Our wise ancestors considered the construction of roads and bridges to be a significant undertaking, which subsequently developed into a noble tradition. Today, in Turkmenistan, the heart of the Great Silk Road, this tradition has been worthy of continuation – new highways and bridges are being consistently built in our country, and the road network is being significantly modernised», – said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The new highway will connect the northern region of the country with the capital. The implementation of this project will significantly enhance transport and transit potential of the country, ensure traffic safety, and increase trade, passenger, and freight flows between neighbouring countries.

The project provides comfortable conditions for drivers and passengers along the entire route. The highway will be equipped with modern instruments and control devices controlled by digital systems. In addition, the construction will include the construction of a new 812-metre-long bridge and the complete modernisation of nine existing bridges.
