Autumn field season of archeological excavations on Gonur-depe monument in Mary province has completed. The largest in our country International Scientific Expedition under guidance of Professor Victor Ivanovich Sarianidi works there.
As a result of excavations in Gonur-depe – the capital of ancient country Margush (or Margiana as it was named in Greco-roman historical sources) – in the jubilee year for this expedition (first season took place here 40 years ago exactly), the archaeologists were able to get a large quantity of new and various data on material culture of population, who lived in these places in the second millennium B.C. After handling and analysis of obtained data, conclusions of the scientists will enter into regular, fifth volume of the Works of Margiana Expedition.
Among artifacts discovered in this season, it is worth mentioning fragments of two miniature anthropomorphous statuettes preliminarily dated to the middle of the second millennium B.C.
