Cotton sowing campaign started in Turkmenistan. Cotton growers in Ahal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary Velayats are planning to pick up over 1,050,000 tons of ‘white gold’ on 550,000 hectares to be sown with cotton this year. Cotton growers in Dashoguz Velayat will launch the important agricultural campaign on March 27 given the climatic conditions of the northern region of the country.
Last year, agricultural workers of the country overfulfilled their contractual obligations delivering 1,235,000 tons of cotton to receiving points in the country.
Within the framework of the State Programmeon development of the agricultural industry of Turkmenistan in 201-2016, particular attention is paid to modernization of the infrastructure, further consolidation of the material and technological basis of the cotton growing industry, including construction of new gin houses. Thus, new ginning enterprises with the annual capacity of 40,000 tons each will be built in Kunyaurgench Etrap, Dashoguz Velayat and Karabekaul Etrap, Lebap Velayat within the next two years. Moreover, new production departments will be opened at gin houses in Beyik Turkmenbashi Etrap, Lebap Velayat and Georogly Etrap in Dashoguz Velayat at the request of the Turkmenpagta State Concern.
Three new facilities will be built in the leading agrarian regions of the country. Two new gin houses with the annual capacity of 40,000 tons each will be erected in Altyn Asyr Etrap in Ahal Velayat as well as in Sakarchaga Etrap in Mary Velayat. New production department will be opened at the cotton cleaning enterprise in Akdepe Etrap, Dashoguz Velayat. Construction of new facilities will start in April, 2013. It is planned to put them into operation in April, 2015.
Cotton growers will pay particular attention to the soil and climatic conditions of each region. Thus, Yoloten-7, 133, C-2606 cotton varieties is to be sown in Ahal, Lebap, Balkan and Mary Velayats. Cotton growers in Ahal and Mary Velayats will sow 9871-E, Yoloten-14 and other cotton varieties. According to the Turkmenobahyzmat Association, over 8,000 various tractors, more than 2,000 seeding machines, over 5,000 cotton cultivators and other agricultural machines and equipment, which will be engaged in the sowing campaign, land reclamation and sowing activities, have been prepared for this year’s agricultural campaign.
