In Kopetdag valley, at the entrance of the International Equestrian Complex, it was held a solemn opening ceremony of the sculptural composition devoted to the legendary Akhalteke horse - Polatly.
Statue of the horse, sparkling with gold, crowned the high stele that rose in the centre of circular interchange in Kopetdag Avenue. Monolithic silhouette, outlined “muscular” lines, regal static nature of figure creates the sensation of significance and power, indomitable will and grandeur.
In due time, alongside with wide popularity, this unsurpassed by beauty and speed sorrel Akhalteke racer gained great number of champion’s titles and prizes, performing in different countries and competing with outstanding horses. Being born in 1965 from stallion Peren and horse Gachgyr, it continued one of major pedigree lines.
In 1968, performing at the Ashgabat hippodrome, Polatly passed 1600-meter long distance within a minute and 44.8 seconds, having established a new record, which remained to be unattainable for racers of the planet nearly three decades.
Polatly left hundreds descendants, having provided them with best traits of their ancestors and replenished the elite livestock of Akhalteke racers. One of most famous successors of the line of Peren is grandson of Polatly – racer Piyada. It is also of gold yellow- sorrel color, champion of breed – 1993. At the end, Polatly horse descends from Piyada in 2006. It was named in honor of its famous ancestor. This racer not only continued glorious pedigree, but also justified big name with bright sport successes, having won in 2008 “Golden star of Turkestan” at the international competitions in Tashkent. The name Polatly and names of its parents are listed on granite pedestal in semicircle of golden horseshoe. Another nine horses reflecting the continuation of rich pedigree diverge with rays from pedestal.
This Equestrian Monument located at the gate to the International Equestrian Complex as if anticipates the meeting with real racers, embodying lively connection of times and generations. Therefore, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov welcomed the initiative of people to call this sculptural and landscape composition “Polatly aylaw”. It became another bright expression of tender, careful and respectful attitude of the Turkmen people to “heavenly” racers in honor of which festive solemnities are widely expanded in these days.
