The adopted “Conception of Development of the electric-power sector of Turkmenistan within 2013-20120” focuses on advance development of production and technical potential of electric-power sector – basic segment of the industry and whole economy of the country.
new powerful power stations, being the installation of new generation, are functioning on the basis of power supply system of Turkmenistan besides Mary Hydropower Station, where production capacities have been increased considerably within the last years. These installations have been commissioned in Ashgabat, Balkanabat, Dashoguz, Akhal, Lebap provinces and “Avaza” National Tourist Zone. At present, 10 power stations and 32 turbines – 14 steam, 15 gas and 3 water turbines are functioning in the structure of the power supply system of the country.
the years of independent development, it was increased about 1700 microwatts of power generating capacities in the country. General line in development of this trend is the use of the latest technologies, high-performance and reliable equipment, automated management systems.
Up-to-date power generating installations not only satisfy the needs in electric power of real and social sectors of Turkmenistan’s economy, but also allow realizing the export of electric power to neighboring countries. At present, considerable production volumes of electric power are exported to Iran, Afghanistan and other states.
the National Program of socio-economic reformations in the regions until 2010, it is envisaged the construction of over 24 thousand kilometers of transmission lines in the remote place. Only within the first quarter of 2013, in the framework of this program, it was laid over 351 km of power transmission lines. In annual calculation, it is introduced more than thousands kilometers of power grids.
Realization of new Conception of Development of the electric-power sector of Turkmenistan is intended for two stages: first – for 2013-2016, the second – for 2017-2020. In the first stage, it is planned the construction of 8 gas-turbine power stations in Akhal, Lebap and Mary provinces, reconstruction of power stations in Seydi, Balkanabat and Abadan as well as construction of high-voltage transmission lines. It allows increasing the electric power production nearly twice by 2016. In the second stage, it is planned the construction of another 6 power stations, transfer to combined management at gas-turbine stations that will allow increasing the generating capacities without additional natural gas production. The construction of air power transmission lines will be continued.
As a whole, in development of electric-power sector until 2020, it is envisaged the investment of over 5 billion US dollars. Turkmenistan also plans to quintuple the export volumes of electric power to overseas countries.
