Textile industry: achievements and new horizons

Day of Textile Workers was celebrated solemnly and widely in Turkmenistan on June 2. Today, tens of thousands of citizens of Turkmenistan work at cotton-spinning, weaving, knitting, garment and silk production enterprises, manufacturing a wide range of high quality domestic goods able to meet competition in world market. The celebrations in honour of textile workers were held throughout the country to mark the remarkable date.

Guests from many countries arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the celebrations and the exhibition “Textile Industry along the Path of Innovative Development in the Epoch of Might and Happiness” which was held at the Exhibition Centre.

The conference held in the framework of the exhibition brought together Turkmen and foreign specialists, businessmen and private entrepreneurs from the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, South Korea and other countries of the world in the conference hall of the Ministry of Textile Industry.

The overviews of the achievements of Turkmenistan’s textile industry in the modern period were presented at the conference. The existing textile enterprises in Turkmenistan currently manufacture 177,000 tons of cotton yarn, 186 million square metres of fabric, 1,000 tons of knitted fabric and 7,200 tons of terry fabric, 80 million finished products thanks to accelerated modernization of production infrastructure and commissioning of high-tech complete-cycle enterprises in different regions of the country. Most of products constitute a substantial portion of Turkmenistan's exports, attracting foreign consumers by natural environmentally friendly materials, quality and design.

Representatives of foreign manufacturers made presentations of new developments and advanced designs.
