The winter crop sowing campaign has started in Turkmenistan this week. As in previous years, the winter wheat fields will cover an area of 860,000 hectares throughout the country, in which Turkmen farmers are planning to reap 1.6 million tons in 2013, including 450,000 tons in Ahal Velayat, 380,000 tons in Mary Velayat, 350,000 tons in Lebap Velayat, 300,000 tons in Dashoguz Velayat and 120,000 tons in Balkan Velayat.
High-quality seeds of high-yield varieties, such as Sahrai, Yoloten-1, Bitarap, Juvan, Turkmenbashi-1 and Turkmenbashi, Batko, Yubileynaya-100, Irishka, Vassa and Nota have been prepared for the agricultural campaign.
Necessary equipment and machines are provided to grain growers. According to the Turkmenobahyzmat State Association, over 3,370 Case, John Deere, Claas, MT-80H and MTZ-82.1 tractors and 1,665 seeders, other equipment are involved across the country in the sowing campaign.
