The first stage of creation of gas producing and processing infrastructure is under completion in the interfluve of Murgap and Amyderya – in giant “Galkynysh” natural gas deposit. Here, powerful industrial center was constructed and is ready for commissioning on the sandy plain of southeast Garagum.
Nowadays here from the region of South Yoloten to the gas pipeline system of country will be delivered first thousands of cubic meters of purified and ready for use gas extracted from the rich gas-bearing strata in the given territory. We witness realization of the largest investment project to develop one of the richest fields of gas in the world for a short period. This event touching the interests of many countries has become possible thanks to the new energy policy of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who has defined the most important priorities of development of the national fuel and energy complex for the near future and it envisages a remarkable increase in the volume of production and processing of hydrocarbon resources, initiation of the latest technologies, widely and broadening of cooperation with leading world companies.
Realization of the investment project worth a total of about 10 billion US dollars at Galkynysh deposit is an obvious fulfillment of this policy. Within some time, the unique gas-bearing territory with an area of thousands of square kilometers has turned into a single giant construction site. Within just few years, the state concern “Turkmengaz” and its contractors could make a very important pace in development of the large deposit of hydrocarbon resources –to construct the central part of the deposit. Workers, engineers and specialists of high class from various countries and our compatriots worked in the deserts of Garagum to develop natural riches of this severe land. The number of workers employed at the deposit has reached from 25 to 31 000 people.
The goal of construction of the giant deposit and production of tank gas from it was not an easy task. The exploration drilling at the field of Galkynysh has showed that the perspective of accumulation of prospected reserves of gas is associated with subsalt carbonate deposits of the high Jurassic period where the thickness of productive horizon makes up 600-700 meters. However, there arose the necessity of new technologies, high power inputs and drilling of deep derricks to reach this colossal gas-bearing layer. In order to supply raw material, natural gas from the field to the three gas processing facilities enterprises built here the contractor of the state concern “Turkmengaz” - CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering CO. LTD (People’s Republic of China) has drilled 22 exploitation wells in the central part of the deposit to ensure the flow of large volume of natural gas. Other six wells, which will be put into exploitation this year, are drilled by experienced teams of the state corporation «Turkmengeology» and Dovletabat drilling department of the state concern «Turkmengaz».
Now, a powerful flow of natural gas begins to run to the first gas processing units and further to gas treating plants from the drilled wells. By that time, the laying of all field pipelines at the deposit has been completed and gas collectors of to desulphurization plants. At the same time with the mining industry at the deposit of Galkynysh, service contractual companies have established the modern gas processing system within a short period. It represents three automated gas treatment plants located at the deposit. One of the first to complete construction-and-assembling and starting up and adjustment operations at the headwork was specialists of Hyundai Engineering CO. LTD. The automated enterprise equipped with modern technologies has been completely designed and built by Korean specialists. At present main and auxiliary kilns work and all installations of the main technological line for desulphurization are in working condition.
A large volume of work has been fulfilled by the construction units of the company Petrofac International LLC, which in addition to the main technological facilities for treatment of gas, has completed construction at such auxiliary projects as fire department, engineering works and ОРУ. Engineers have repaired four installations for initial gas processing , have laid the export gas pipeline with an extent of 100 kilometers and laid the railway line as far as the point of shipment of granulated sulphur and system of power and water supply units and others. Not far from gas station-1 with the help of Chinese specialists, the company Petrofac International LLC has erected another head enterprise for desulphurization of natural gas at gas station 2. This installation is designed for 6 technological stages of desulfurization and control of dew points. From boreholes to the point of initial gas treatment installation, they have already stretched 22 circuits and from the initial gas treatment installation to the plant –gas collector. Now natural gas runs from the initial gas treatment installation to the processing train of the plant.
Unique in its capacity and location, the gas mining and gas processing industry at «Galkynysh» required creation of modern engineering and social infrastructures. In the desert there have been laid a system of comfortable motorways connecting projects of gas infrastructure scattered over the territory of projects of gas infrastructure. Railway line with an extent of over 20 kilometers is laid and on which from the points of shipment of the plant as much as two million tons of granulated sulphur and gas condensate will be shipped. The power transmission line were stretched to the projects of gas infrastructure and a water intake with a capacity of 18 000 cubic meters per day, water treatment facilities and water pipeline with an extent of 66 kilometers have been also constructed. In construction of these projects, local units have also participated: Mary gas workers have built the water conduit to the plant and motorway to the water conduit from the hydroelectric power station and power engineers have provided the deposit with electricity. At the deposit, there have been built two camps for more than 2000 workers, who would work at the enterprises of the sector. In development of “Galkynysh” deposit, Turkmenistan confirms its status as one of the leading energy states of the world and possesses all possibilities for increase of gas production volumes.
