With a view of more rational use of arable lands, resource saving and upgrading the work of agricultural sector, it will be continued the optimization of placement of agricultural crops in the regions of the country. As the State news agency of Turkmenistan informs, the necessity of introduction in Balkan province of new scheme of crop rotation was noted at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held today.

So, it is planned to stop the cultivation of cotton in Balkan province, where 5 thousand hectares were allotted under this crop. Taking into account that soil and climatic conditions of the region allows providing the return of a hectare in the province at the level of only 10% of raw cotton per hectare – 5 thousand tons a year, cotton will give its place on the fields of the region to other crops. New scheme of crop rotation in Balkan province allows using the lands and resources more efficiently, yielding 2-3 harvests of fodder, grain, gourds and other crops per year.

At the same time, total production volumes of raw cotton will be kept. So, in the next year, owing to growth of crop capacity, it is planned to increase the production volumes of cotton in Akhal province – by 2 thousand tons, in Mary province – by 3 thousand tons.

Having listened to the reports and proposals submitted at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the economic reasonability of decision to stop from next year to sow cotton in Balkan province and cultivation of additional cotton volumes in Akhal and Mary provinces. The head of state underlined that as a whole, the raw cotton production volumes will be invariable, but it will be saved significant volumes of water essential for watering of crops.
