The shop producing sulphuric acid with the annual capacity of 500.000 tons is to expand production infrastructure of Turkmenabat chemical plant. The State Development Bank of Turkmenistan will issue a loan to the Turkmenhimiya State Concern to partially finance the project implemented by the consortium of foreign companies.

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Japan) and Ronesans Turkmen Insaat Sanayi we Ticaret A.S. (Turkey) launched construction works in September 2013. The shop producing sulphuric acid is to be put into operation in July 2016.

The need to build the shop producing is based on the fact that sulphuric acid is difficult to transport, unload and prepare for manufacture. For these reasons, the price for imported sulphuric acid is higher than that produced domestically. Sulphuric acid is used for manufacturing mineral fertilizers, processing liquid fuels, refining mineral oils as well as in the metallurgical, textile, leather and other industries.
