President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergei Lebedev, who was heading the CIS observation mission. The mission was invited to monitor the parliamentary elections which were held in the country on December 15.
S. Lebedev said that the parliamentary elections had been held on a competitive basis, in strict accordance with the national law and the universally recognized standards of international law on the organization and conducting of elections.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to the CIS mission and the CIS Executive Committee for fruitful cooperation, emphasizing that Turkmenistan would continue to be its active participant in the CIS space.
“Our country values good relationship with long-term partners who we are bound with by not only the strong bonds of friendship, but also the profound experience of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation which has resulted in dozens of important joint projects,” the Turkmen leader said.
During the meeting the President and his guest discussed a wide range of issues relating particularly to the prospects of collaboration between Turkmenistan and the CIS Executive Committee that is the coordinating body of this major organisation.
