At the base of Karakul sheep factory of Turkmenabat a five seminar –conference was held for specialists and breeders of the karakul sheep of departments of the cattle breeding economies of the state cattle breeding association. The planned seminar is held before the lambing campaign, which begins in early March.

The seminar gathered 75 specialists of veterinary and zootechnics from all over the country, who have been entrusted to carry out appraisal -value the quality of young animals of the karakul breed of sheep. The appraisal of lambs is carried out before three days of birth. It is in this period that specialists can determine without mistake to which of four karakul types one can refer the quality of the skin taken from the breed-to jacket, costate, flat or caucuses. They also determine the color of the karakul dividing it by their tints into black, grey and sur (close to brown). The external appearance or look of lambs is visually valued in the complex.

The training has also touched upon the issues of modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of infectious and non-infectious, parasite diseases of animals, spheres of veterinary service and innovations in the field of veterinary preparations. Research workers of the Institute of Cattle Breeding and Veterinary of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and specialists of the Pedigree Service of the State Cattle Breeding Association held the seminar.

At present, lambs are not used for obtaining the karakul and the quality work is carried out to increase the total head of the pedigree breed and to select the best offsprings. Here the zootechnics is an important stage summing up the result of the annual work in karakul breeding and by its outcome one can judge if the sheep-breeding branch develops successfully and define plans for future. In flocks of the State Cattle Breeding Association there are almost 1300000 sheep of the karakul breed. About half of them are female animals and this year about 705. 5 thousand lambs are expected to yield of them.
