Natural gas produced at the large field of “Galkynysh”, is delivered to the export gas pipeline system of the country. The unique gas bearing territory with an area of thousands of square kilometers the reserve of which counts in 26, 2 trillion cubic meters of “blue fuel”, has turned into a powerful industrial center with developed road and transport infrastructure.
This grandiose event has become possible thanks to the new energy strategy of president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov outlining the important priorities of development of local fuel and energy complex for the near future. The visible realization of this policy is implementation of the investment project in Galkynysh field with a total sum of about 10 billion US dollars. For just few years the state concern “Turkmengaz” and its contract organizations could make an important step in development of the natural reserve of hydrocarbon resources- accomplish the central part of the field.
The severe nature conditions in the South-east Garagum yielded due to the persisting works of construction companies, contractors with which our gasmen signed service contracts for development of this gas bearing territory.
By the instructions of the concern specialists of these companies with a shortest period of time have created the modern high technology infrastructure of gas mining and gas processing facilities designated for the volume f 30 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Workers, engineers, specialists of high class from different countries and our countrymen worked in the Garagum desert to develop natural resources of this severe land. By just one figure one can judge the scale of construction. The number of workers employed at this field in certain periods reached from 25000 to 31 000 persons, moreover, 70 % of workers made up local population.
Prospecting drilling at the field «Galkynysh» has shown that the prospect of increase in reserves of gas is connected with subsalt carbonate layers of high Jurassic period where the thickness of productive area makes up 600-700 meters. However, to reach this powerful gas bearing thickness new technologies, high energy expenses and drilling with deep wells were required. Now from drilled wells to the points of primary gas processing facilities and further to gas refineries a powerful flow of natural gas runs.
Simultaneously from the gas mining industry to the field of Galkynysh service contract companies within a short term have created the modern gas processing works. They include three automated gas processing plants with an annual capacity of 10 billion cubic meters of gas at the field. Specialists of the company Hyundai Engineering CO. LTD were one of the first to have completed the construction and installation and commissioning and adjusting work at the central erection. Now all facilities of main technological line for desulfurization is in working condition.
The large capacity of work was realized by the construction divisions of the company Petrofac International LLC, which in addition to the main technological equipment for purification of gas with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year, has completed construction of many additional facilities. Builders have installed four units for primary gas processing, laid out the export gas pipeline with a length of 100 kilometers, built the railway line to the point of shipment of granulated sulphide. With efforts of Chinese specialists another central enterprise from purification of gas –GS-2 with a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year was also erected. This unit is designated for 6 stage technological desulfurization process. From drilling wells to the point of primary gas processing unit they have already stretched 22 sections and from the primary gas processing unit to the plant –a gas collector.
The gas mining and gas processing industries at Galkynysh field which are unique in their capacity and location required creation of the developed engineering and social infrastructure. This work has been implemented. A set of comfortable motor rods linking the zones of projects of gas infrastructures scattered all over the territory were laid in the desert. Over 20 kilometer railway by which from the points of shipment of plants as much as 2 million granulated sulphide and gas condensate will be transported, is under construction. To the projects of gas infrastructure electric lines, water collecting capacity with a reserve of 18000 cubic meters per day, water treatment units and water pipeline with a length of 66 kilometers were built. In construction of these projects local divisions also took part: Mary gasmen constructed the water pipeline to the plant and motor road from the hydroelectric power station to the water source, power engineers provided the field with power energy. Two shift workers; settlements for 2000 workers were built at the deposit. These modern convenient residential complexes equipped with comfortable furniture, air conditioning systems, gyms, cinema halls, separate bakeries, canteens, cafes, and shops.
With development of the field Galkynysh Turkmenistan confirms its status of one of the leading energy powers of the world and possesses all opportunities to increase the production volume of gas. Enterprises of the fuel-energy complex of the country and their partners have carried out enormous work to develop he economic potential of the branch. There are still more grandiose plans are expected to be realized in future. The second stage of development of the giant underground reserve of resources will start.
