Preparation for sowing campaign is going on in the cotton fields of all regions of the country. In this year, total area under cotton will come to 545 thousand hectares wherefrom the farmers plan to yield the harvest in 1 million 50 thousand tons of raw cotton.
The southern regions of the country – Akhal (on 120 thousand hectares), Mary (on 165 thousand hectares) and Lebap (on 120 thousand hectares) will start the sowing on March 26, and just later – on April 2, the sowing campaign starts in the northern region – Dashoguz province, where 140 thousand hectares of sowing areas have been allotted under cotton.
Over 2 thousand sowing machines, 4 thousand 800 cultivators, more than 7 thousand tillable tractors and tractor-cultivators, nearly 28 thousand 500 spike-tooth harrows and other additional technique have been led out to the line of full readiness. Among machinery, there are powerful agricultural vehicles of world famous brands «Claas», «John Deere», «Case», «Belarus» and others.
More than 65 thousand tons of selected cotton seeds have been stored up for sowing campaign. Their volume comes to nearly 15 middle-fiber and fine-fiber sorts. Middle-fiber sorts are traditionally cultivated in all regions of Turkmenistan. Sowing of fine-fiber sorts of cotton will take place in two regions of the country – Mary and Akhal provinces.
