Action programme for the fuel and energy sector accelerated

The issues related to the further development of Turkmenistan’s fuel and energy sector in the context of the objectives set by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the meeting with the high-ranking officials of the oil and gas industry were put on the agenda of a meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources. The high-ranking officials of the fuel and energy sector, sectoral departments, research institutes, enterprises and institutions of the country participated in the meeting.

In particular, special attention was paid to the need to ensure deep hydrocarbon processing, promote gas-chemical and petrochemical industries and build facilities producing gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from natural gas, polyethylene and polypropylene and synthetic oil from associated gas.

A focus of discussion was the implementation of the project of the transnational energy bridge Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India, the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project, the completion of construction of the forth leg of Turkmenistan- China gas pipeline and the continuation of construction of the gas pipelines towards Russian and Iran in accordance with the contracts.

The short-term objectives include the development of the project for commercial development of the Galkynysh gas field, including technological infrastructure in order to accelerate natural gas production. The next step is to complete the work, which will allow extracting 30 billion cubic metres of natural gas by 2018.

Along with the need to increase the pace of exploration work to discover new deposits of oil, natural gas and gas condensate, discussion focused on the importance of scientific research and environmental conservation, which all energy projects should pay prioritize.
