The state power engineering corporation “Turkmenenergo” is the complex organization, providing the exploitation and service of the energy facilities, smooth power supply of consumers, realizing the construction of cable and overhead power transmission lines, including for increase of export volumes of electric power. Besides its target obligations, the subdivisions of the corporation carry out the construction of energy facilities in accordance with “National program on development of social and living conditions of population of villages, settlements, towns in etraps and etrap centers until 2020”.
Since adoption of this program, over eight thousand kilometers of cable and overhead power transmission lines with voltage of 0.4-220 kilovolt have been laid today as well as within the period from 2008 to 2014, it was reconstructed and installed over 3000 transformers of different capacity. It was also constructed three gas-turbine power stations (in Akhal, Avaza, Balkanabat) with the leading technological equipment from world-famous companies.
In the near future, the power engineering specialists have to realize large-scale work on supply with electric power of new industrial and social infrastructures of the seaside, which will be created round transcontinental railroad “North-South”. It is worked out the projects of electric power transmission lines, substations and other facilities, which will be constructed along the main line.
In connection with putting into exploitation of power-consuming industries, in future, it is planned the erection of new energy installations. So, according to “Concept of development of power engineering sector of Turkmenistan within 2013-2020”, 14 gas-turbine power stations are planned to be constructed in different provinces. In May 2013, it was simultaneously started the construction of small gas-turbine power stations in Akhal, Lebap and Mary provinces. The first of them with capacity of 141.7 megawatts was put into operation in Ak bugday etrap of Akhal province at the end of the last year. The second one with capacity of 149.2 megawatts was put into exploitation in May 2014. It was completed the construction of expandable part of Mary state power station, which has three gas turbines with total capacity of 146.4 megawatts, where presently, it is carried out balancing and commissioning. Putting of the facility into exploitation is planned in October 2014 – by the Independence Day of Turkmenistan.
At present, the specialists of “Turkmenenergo” jointly with the Turkish company “Chalyk Energy” started the realization of the second and third stage of scale modernization project of power engineering equipment and electric networks of the capital’s region. In the regions of old and new side development, it is constructed modern powerful substations; overhead lines are changed to more reliable cable nets. Dynamic development of the city demanded the change of equipment and networks taking into account increased consumption volume of electric power by population of the country. In the course of the first stage of reconstruction of power supply of the city, it was envisaged the construction of 27 new high-voltage substations of 110, 35, 10 kilovolts and nearly one hundred transformer points. Within the precincts of a city, the power engineering specialists successively carry out the replacement of outdated overhead lines by cable networks. Tens kilometers of power cables are laid to new residential areas.
At present, it is carried out the works on increase of export volumes of the Turkmen electric power to abroad. It is realized the construction of overhead electric power transmission lines of 500 kilovolts from open electricity distribution plant of Mary state power station till substation “Atamyrat”. With a view of improvement of power supply of consumers as well as increase of export of electric power to neighboring states, it was erected high-voltage power transmission line of 220 kilovolts “Serdar-Farab”, “Farab-Watan”, “Atamyrat-Pelvert”. It is completed the construction of high-voltage power transmission line of 500 kilovolts “Mary DPS-Atamyrat” and “Atamyrat-Andhoi” (till border with Afghanistan).
Besides, with a view to increase the export of Turkmen electric power, it is planned the construction of overhead power transmission line of 400 kilovolts “Mary-Meshed (Iran)” and “Balkanabat-Aliabad (Iran)”. It gives an opportunity to fulfill the plans of export of electric power to Iran and Turkey – by transit through Iranian power supply system.
Volume of Turkmen electric power, being annually exported to neighboring countries, is over 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours, which in percentage comes to 13-15% from total generation of electric power in Turkmenistan.
