- Needle-shaped coke is highly structured carbonic product with low content of metals and sulphur. It is expensive product, being obtained by oil processing and used for manufacture of graphitized electrodes. Graphite, its derivatives are actively applied in atomic, metallurgical, chemical, cosmic sectors. Its necessity creates favorable condition for arrangement of production of this kind of product in Turkmenistan.
TORC produces two kinds of oil coke – composite (semi-finished product) and calcined. But as compared with price of composite coke, the needle-shaped coke is expensive by 5-7 times in the world market. Its cost comes to 2 thousand US dollars per ton. According to assessments of the international experts, the need in needle-shaped coke will be doubled in the near 3-4 years.
Main condition for adjustment of industrial production of needle-shaped coke is the availability of essential resources of qualitative raw material and relevant installations for coking. Low-sulphur coke is potentially suitable raw material for production of needle-shaped coke. At present, the only enterprise on the territory of CIS, which manufactures from tar oil the low-sulphur (with content of sulphur – 0.5%) coke, is the Turkmenbashi Oil Refineries Complex.
In 2003, of "Westport Trading Europe Limited” Company (USA) jointly with UGNTU in Ufa (Russia) carried out the researches of raw material, being used at pilot installations of the Turkmenbashi Oil Refineries Complex, which confirmed that technologies worked out by the specialists of our company allow producing high-quality needle-shaped coke at the level of world standards.
Production process of oil needle-shaped coke is technologically complicated, demanding the development of unique methods of raw material processing and production process for every enterprise that entails significant time and material costs. But, the technological potential of the Turkmenbashi Oil Refineries Complex gives a reason to adjust here profitable production of high-quality needle-shaped coke.
