In the northern part of Turkmenabad, there is an artificial branch of Amyderya called the boatyard. On its left bank, it is located a building slip of Turkmenabad ship-repairing and construction site of Production Association “Deryayollary” of the State Service of sea and river transport of Turkmenistan. Here by means of SLIP (huge platform on trolleys and sloping rails), it is raised the floating means: dry freight barges, diesel towboats, and removable pontoons – sections of crossing Turkmenabad -Farap. After realization of various kinds of repair, they are returned to operation.
Recently, hydraulic dredge constructed here has been launched into water. It is the large structure, which weight is 34 tons, length – 15 meters, width – 6.6 meters and height – 3.8 meters. Its capacity is 120 cubic meters per hour. It is enough only two persons in each watch for service.
Main destination of hydraulic dredges is the expansion and deepening after pumps of irrigating channels and collector ditches. These operations contribute to the increase of carrying capacity of irrigating nets. Subsidiary vessels are also can be used efficiently on water areas of rivers and their branches. Other important functions: fulfilment of rectification and bank stabilizing works (correspondingly owing to soil man-induced and alluvium) as well as sand recovery for constructions and participation in the building of hydrotechnical structures.
Owing to the diesel towboat, the floating pumping facility was taken close to opposite bank of boatyard for industrial experiments. Decades have passed since time when such subsidiary and other vessels were constructed in Turkmenabad. It is worth mentioning that hydraulic dredges created in that period are used even today by the irrigators of the country in different regions, as well as for keeping due depth of the artificial branch from Amyderya leading to the water reservoir. As a whole, 228 hydraulic dredges are used in home waterways all over the country.
New floating pumping facility will operate in access duct of Turkmenbashi International Port. By the way, it is adapted better for rolling owing to engineering perfections and overall considerably, but like previous ones, it is disassembled and can be transported on three heavy dumpers from the site that is very comfortable for delivery to remote exploitation places.
It is worth to add that for future it was worked out a program of phased modernization of equipment of ship repairing and construction site until 2020. According to the calculations of the specialists, its realization allows constructing on building slips up to three hydraulic dredges, four towboats, tens of outboard motorboats of different modifications and a 200-ton dry freight barge per year. At that, the number of personnel will increase nearly twice. Beginning from the current year, the specialists of different profiles were started to be trained here in Turkmenabad at the secondary professional river school of the State Service of sea and river transport of Turkmenistan.
