Cotton sowing campaign has started in Turkmenistan. As was reported, during the March 20 meeting of the cabinet of ministers of Turkmenistan, the President gave his blessing to start sowing cotton in Ahal, Lebap and Mary Velayat on March 27 and in Dashoguz on April 3.
Following the tradition, the important agricultural campaign started with the participation of the elders, who sowed the first cotton seeds and then machine operators started their work.
Cotton growers in Turkmenistan are planning to pick up over 1,050,000 tons of ‘white gold’ on 545,000 hectares to be sown with cotton this year. Of them, 207,000 tons - in Ahal Velayat, 230,000 tons in Dashoguz Velayat, 300,000 tons in Lebap Velayat, and 313,000 tons in Mary Velayat.
Over 65,000 tons of cotton seeds, including 15 fine- and medium-stapled cotton varieties were stored for this year’s campaign.

The workshops focusing on the critical aspects of the ongoing agricultural reform aimed at boosting development and profitability of the domestic agro-industrial sector and raising agricultural output were conducted in the leading farmers associations on the eve of the sowing campaign.
