Eleven facilities have been completed at the construction site of new aerodrome complex of the capital

Seventy-meter high tower with inspection cabin for dispatchers, managing air traffic, will become a bright dominant of whole architectural ensemble of new aerodrome complex in Ashgabat, which construction is realized by the Turkish Company “Polimeks”.

This project will become “brain” of the flight-control system after equipment of the control tower with the complicated electron-technical “fittings”, including modern aero navigation apparatus, which allows realizing full control over air traffic in responsibility zone of the airport and beyond its limits.

If to come on seventy-meter height then it is opened before eyes a whole construction site of aerodrome complex with size of over 12 million square meters. From bird's-eye view, it reminds a giant anthill. On whole boundless field, it is moved to and fro hundreds of heavy-load vehicles of “KamAZ”, “MAZ”, “Mercedes” brands full of crushed stone, soil, sand and other building materials. It is also activated concrete trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, trench diggers and other earth-moving machines. Each hour, about thousand cubic meters of concrete is delivered here from nine mixing stations of the company- main contractor. It is used for construction of landing strip, taxiways, platform, passenger terminal and other numerous objects of future aerodrome complex. Building structures, finishing materials, the equipment necessary for construction are provided by vehicles, crafts and railway.


It is difficult to follow in this Brownian movement of lifting metalware, ladles with the concrete mix, rotating arrows of elevating cranes and uncountable dump-body trucks moving from place to place, the sequence of actions of all divisions. But it at first sight. The coordination centre of the company vigilantly control the performance of the schedule of works on each site of this huge building. Control over quality of construction is carried out by specially created group of technical supervision of department of airports operation and capital construction of State Civil Aviation Department “Turkmenhowayollary”, and the consulting services on control over conformity of all facilities of aerodrome complex to the standards confirmed by international organization IKAO are provided by the German company “Airport Consulting Partners/ILF Consulting Engineers”.

- Presently, about 10 thousand workers of various building occupations practically from all provinces of the country and more than 1300 specialists of the Turkish company “Polimeks” participate in construction of aerodrome complex in Ashgabat, - the chief of the department of airports operation and capital construction of State Civil Aviation Department “Turkmenhowayollary” Abdurahman Jusupov explains. - On this huge territory, they erect simultaneously forty objects, which will be a part of the largest international airport in Central Asia.


The passenger terminal - a huge five-floor building with the area of 180 thousand square meters, which outlines remind the falcon spread in flight, will become the most significant part of aerodrome complex. Through these “air gates”, it will be accept and send 1600 air passengers every hour.

- Presently, we are completing the assemblage of massive structure of the building, steel roof and façade, which will be made from glass, metalware cased with aluminum composite panels with fire-prevention steam-and-waterproofing layings, - tells Levent Gani, manager of the construction project of passenger terminal.

In the terminal, there are comfortable waiting rooms and registration, sensor-based electronic reference system, ticket offices, Internet cafe, post offices, call boxes, exchange cash desks, cash dispenses, left-luggage offices, cafeterias, restaurants, duty-free shops. Here, it is envisaged the hotels for pilots and transit passengers, a room of mother and child, special children's playgrounds, posts of rendering of the first medical aid, booths of the press and retail trade, a conference hall, a museum, hotel for transit visitors.

- All elements of future terminal have been fulfilled taking into account the high requirements of seismic safety, - continues the manager of the project. – For this, on every meter of building foundation, it was drilled 16-meter bored piles filled with high-strength reinforced concrete, which allows the massive building sustaining 9-point and higher earthquake load.


Innovative technologies and latest materials were used by builders while creation of landing strip “Southern” with length 3.8 kilometers and width 75 meters.

Before to fill the concrete plates, the builders needed to remove on all extent of a strip the big layer of earth. Now, the earth waste heaps rise over building. In a trench, a quarry stone from rocky breeds was laid with 60-centimeter layer, closed with geotextiles, filled with crushed stone, and then with a 40-centimeter sandy gravel. Over this mix, it was laid another layer of the granulated gravel. And already on this, it was put a bitumen waterproofing and filled in so-called “lean concrete”, allowing maximally condensing this “case” and beginning the packing of concrete plates. While construction of a landing strip, each concrete plate was incorporated with next by the special dowels, evenly transferring loadings during plane landing.


According to the characteristics - load-carrying capacity, extent and equipment with radio navigating and light-signal equipment, “Southern” landing strip is intended for landing of all types of the planes registered by international organization IKAO, taking into account the possibility of the most complicated weather conditions. “Northern” landing strip will have the same characteristics. Its reconstruction and accomplishment of all adjoining territory of a complex will begin as soon as construction of “Southern” landing strip will be finished. It is done because the new aerodrome complex is created in conditions when all services of “Turkmenistan” airline continue to work in a standard mode, providing regular flights of airliners and service of passengers.

- Recently, the aviators received for exploitation a wonderful building of the school for training of aviation staff. In three-storey building, there are 36 classrooms fitted with projectors and interactive boards, modern library, conference hall, several language laboratories for learning foreign languages, - told the deputy chairman of the school Vadim Sigov. – And on the place of old building of the school, it will be constructed the medical and sports and fitness centers of the airline.

It will be also created a modern stimulating complex for training of crews. Here, it will be set emulators of deck of “Boing-737” airliner of NG generation, as well as created the conditions for flight of pilots on four training aircrafts “Diamond”.

According to the data of headquarters of the construction site, it has been completed the construction of 11 facilities of aerodrome complex – rooms, wherein the militarized security service of the airport, staff of aerodrome service, head base of radio engineering and light securing of flights, checkpoint and others.


It is completed the construction of search-and-rescue station, situating near takeoff and landing strip, and capacious freight terminal with storage rooms intended for handling of 200 thousand tons of cargo per year. In front of freight terminal, it is raised the impressive by size the office building of aviation-technical basis and metalware of hangars of technical center “C-check” for three aircrafts.

Construction of one of the most beautiful buildings of the complex – VIP terminal is in full swing. It envisages all conditions for reception of the high-ranking guests, holding of the meetings, sessions and conferences. It is expected that VIP-terminal will be ready for exploitation in February 2016.
