Among leading directions of development of national science, the researches in the field of mining of minerals occupy one of priority places. And though, presently, Turkmenistan possesses huge resource base of hydrocarbons, it is necessary the opening of new deposits for maintenance at high level of the explored reserves of oil and gas.

The basic method of exploration of hydrocarbons in deep horizons is prospecting seismology. In the last years, the methods and technics of field seismic-prospecting works, programs of processing and interpretation of the received material have considerably become complicated. Three-dimensional updating of seismic prospecting - a reflection method develops dynamically. High possibilities of these technologies as well as deep drilling allowed studying in details deep-laying deposits.

At the Institute of Oil and Gas of “Turkmengas” State Concern, the employees of laboratory of the analysis of seismic materials of oil and gas deposits have revealed a significant amount of new underground traps of oil and gas as a result of scientific generalization of data and processing of the geologic-geophysical material accumulated by decades. The also developed and prepared recommendations on holding the exploratory and prospecting drilling in their territories.

So, on the area of Mydar oil and gas deposit, it was first revealed the independent high named “Western dome”, where commercial inflow of oil subsequently has been received. At present, the staff of laboratory to the order of “Marynebitgazgozleg” Management of “Turkmengeologiya” SC is engaged in scientific generalization and new interpretation of a seismic material on perspective territories of Southeast Turkmenistan, which are the major gas area of the country.

In modern conditions, when objects of traditional “shatlyk” directions have been practically exhausted, there was a necessity for expansion of researches of more deep-laying Jurassic depositions. Their high prospect was proved by opening of unique gas-condensate field “Galkynysh”.

Typical feature of a geological structure of these upper Jurassic depositions on the territory of Southeast Turkmenistan is the development in its cross-section of cut reef formations, possessing higher capacity. They form natural reservoirs of massive type capable to accumulate large deposits of hydrocarbons.

Scientific generalization and integrated interpretation of the data of land seismic prospecting with attraction of drilling results allowed receiving in principle new data on deep geological structure Jurassic and before Jurassic depositions. As a result of investigations, it was revealed a significant amount of oil and gas traps of various type, and consequently, prospects of opening of large deposits of hydrocarbons sharply increase.

Besides, it was obtained new important data about development in Southeast Turkmenistan of buried reef formations. In the region Gunorta Yoloten-Minara, it was revealed for the first time and tracked barrier reef complexes, studied their form, sizes, height, strike. The location of dedicated barrier reefs within sag slopes, large sizes and big height (400-600m) of traps predetermines their very considerable prospects. Moreover, in deep-water part of a sag, it was discovered the isolated external reefs, and in elevated sites of Gunorta-Yoloten and Osman highs - a considerable volume of single reefs, which are of huge interest from viewpoint of opening of huge hydrocarbon fields.

In dedicated reef complexes, it is possible to expect large reserves of gas. It is also expected the availability of liquid hydrocarbons. Revealed reef barrier system by its position and structure can be an independent regional zone of gas and oil accumulations. Here, it is necessary to conduct stage-by-stage high-technology seismic prospecting researches by 2D and 3D technique in combination with parametrical drilling, and at the closing stage - drilling of exploratory and prospecting wells.

Possibility of opening in Southeast Turkmenistan of the deposits connected with reefs and other carbonate structures considerably raises the prospects of territory for largest gas reserves, and possible oil.
